Current Favorites: Podcasts

I work solo most of the time, and really enjoy listened to music or podcasts when I work. My group of friends are also creatives and we enjoy swapping podcast suggestions to listen to frequently. I thought I’d compile a list of my recent favorites here if you’re looking for something to listen to while you work, tidy your house, cook dinner or while you’re in transit.

Here is a list of five podcasts/episodes I’ve really been enjoying lately. They span from true crime to creative business and life. I hope you enjoy!

  1. Dream Freedom Beauty episode 133 with Nadine Artemis of Living Libations

Nadine is so full of wisdom on health and what we put in and on our bodies. I love her positive outlook on life and knowledge of the history of cosmetics. She seems like such a lovely and inspiring person and listening to this episode made me want to meditate and incorporate more positive thinking. She lives in a small town in Ontario and as a business owner wants to be a welcoming place that provides supportive and flexible jobs for mothers, which I think is admirable. I’m also extremely curious to check out her book on holistic dental care. I love listening to the Dream Freedom Beauty podcast for interviews on unique spiritual people who are doing good in the world through their craft.

2. The Lifestyle Edit Episdoe 76 with Brittany Turner: How to Pay Yourself And Build Personal Wealth as a Creative Business Owner

I just discovered The Lifestyle Edit podcast and this is the first episode I have listened to so far. Brittany, a CPA and business owner of Countless, shares so many nuggets of wisdom regarding finances in your life and your business that are so so useful! I can’t wait to dive more into this podcast.

3. Crimetown Season 2 - Detroit

I couldn’t get into the first season of Crimetown but when I heard the second season is about Detroit (where I live) I was curious. I have lived here for almost five years but I don’t know a ton about the history of Detroit and it’s been so intriguing to learn about the crime wave of the 70s and 80s and how Detroit has gotten to where it is today. Give it a listen if you like true crime (and who doesn’t…?!)

4. Good Company Podcast episode 2: Justina Blakeney Discusses Radical Honesty and Diversity in Design

I am SO happy that Grace Bonney of Design Sponge has started podcasting again. I was a huge fan of her previous podcast After the Jump and am loving the new direction that Good Company has taken. This interview with Justina Blakenly gets into her path to working in the design world and her take on being radically honest in the internet world where everything is shiny and perfect. I love her take on how to find common ground with people who seemingly are SO opposite from your walk of life and how to find similarities and connect with them.

5. Close Knit Podcast episode 45: Adrienne Antonson on Scrappiness, Making Mistakes and Scaling a Business

I’m a big fan of Ani (the host) and also of Adrienne’s business STATE the Label so I was naturally very excited to give this episode a listen. I loved hearing the evolution of Adrienne’s business journey throughout the years and how she’s moved an astounding number of times in the last 15 years and what each different city has taught her. I actually own a STATE smock (their most popular item) and I absolutely love it. I am so inspired by her business and how she incorporates her family and employees into her creative vision.

Thanks for reading this post. Are you guys into podcasts? If so, leave some of your favorites in the comments. I’m a podcast fiend and am always on the lookout for new ones to listen to.
